R2 Flare from Region 2222

D-region plot
R2 Flare from Region 2222
published: Sunday, December 07, 2014 20:14 UTC

Despite a quiet past, Region 2222 produced a R2 - moderate solar flare today. There were no immediate indications that a CME occurred with this event. The impacts from this event transpired as a Solar Radio Blackout, which affects HF radio communications (3-30 MhZ) on the daylight side of Earth at the time of the flare. In this instance, without additional flares, the impacts should last under an hour. Depicted here a model plot showing what the impact area would have been as the flare occurred, and the affected frequencies.
