R1-R2 (Minor-Moderate HF Radio Blackouts) occurred on 3 May, 2023 due to M-class flares from Region 3293. The associated M-class flares began at 3/0927 UTC (3 May at 5:27am EDT) with an M4 (R1) flare. Several additional M-class flares occurred in the hours afterwards, the largest was a M7 (R2) flare 3/1045 UTC (6:45am EDT). The surge in flare activity was likely due to an intensification of the magnetic field within the spot group. This increased complexity and the growth in nearby Region 3296 have led to increased chances of additional M-class flare events, and a slight chance of X-class flares (R3-Strong) over the next few days.
