Dynamic Planetary K-Index Plots Deployed: Display Issues Resolved

Planetary K-Index Plot Changes
Dynamic Planetary K-Index Plots Deployed: Display Issues Resolved
published: Wednesday, October 05, 2022 14:10 UTC

The initial August 30, 2022 deployment of the dynamic Planetary K-Index plots resulted in display issues for iPhone and Safari web browser Mac users.  That change was temporarily rolled back until a fix was identified.  A fix for the display issue has now been implemented and the new dynamic plots have been deployed. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the initial deployment of these plots.

Changes you will see in the new dynamic Planetary K-Index plots are described below:

  • Plot colors aligned with NOAA G-Scales

    • The Planetary K-Index plot displays green columns for Kp <=4, then follows the G-Scales beginning with Kp = 5 (yellow)

  • Decimal Kp values displayed

    • On or after 8/30/2022 Kp values will now be displayed in decimal format (e.g., 1.33, 1.67, 2.00)

  • Changes will be made to the main Planetary K-Index Plot as well as the Planetary K-Index plots displayed in the Aviation and Electric Power community dashboards
